Meet Our Governors & Associate Members 

Our Governors and Associate Members are appointed from a range of backgrounds and bring different skills and expertise to their role.

Governors and Associate Members are volunteers and we give our time for free to support the school.   We all share the common goal of ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their best within a safe, supportive and stimulating learning environment, enabling pupils to succeed and 'thrive'.

• Lena Markou
  Lena Markou

  Dr. Lena Markou, a passionate advocate for education, is a Lecturer in Linguistics at UCL and a Chartered Linguist. As a Fellow of two professional bodies, she has a deep understanding of language and its cultural significance. Beyond her academic pursuits, Lena has established her own language provision services. Her lifelong passion for making a positive impact is evident in her volunteer work. As the current Chair of Governors at Malorees, she can combine her love of education with her desire to make a difference. Additionally, she serves as the Chair of Trustees for the Third Age Project, a charity that supports elderly people in Camden.

• Mark Rothery
  Mark Rothery

  Dr Mark Rothery is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Northampton, specialising in the history of emotions in eighteenth and nineteenth century Britain. He has a child in Yr 1 at Malorees. He has twenty years of experience teaching and researching in higher education. He lives locally and passionately believes in the vital role that schools play in constructing and replenishing local communities. In his spare time Mark enjoys cycling and reading historical novels.

• Angus Hislop,

  Angus Hislop,

  Angus was governor at three Brent schools before joining the board as a co-opted Governor. He was previously a senior partner at PwC , the accounting and consulting firm, and a director of Cisco Systems. He is also a former trustee of a large multi academy trust and founder director of a mentoring organization for women executives. He has a particular interest in maintaining Malorees' financial stability and building on the long tradition of musical excellence.

• Jackie Horn
  Jackie Horn

  Jackie Horn has lived locally nearly all her life. She has a background in strategic consulting, project management and communications and is passionate about using her skills to benefit the wider community. Jackie see no better place to contribute than in a local primary school believing that a positive primary school experience is the foundation for future learning and skills.

• Julia Sahling
  Julia Sahling

  Julia is an Associate Governor and a link governor for the EYFS at Malorees. She has been a teacher in London schools and internationally for 14 years, with a specialism in early years education. Julia has an MA in education and is particularly interested in how education can empower children to change the future. She enjoys travelling and experiencing new cultures and has taught in Thailand and Mexico. She currently teaches at an international school in London.

• Samantha Sears
  Samantha Sears

  Sam worked in the City for over 25 years as a corporate and commercial lawyer and was a partner at Lovells (now Hogan Lovells), the City law firm, and then worked in-house at Tungsten PLC as their General Legal Counsel. She lives locally and is excited to be an associate governor at Malorees and to use her skills to contribute to the school and its community.

• Paul Vettath
  Paul Vettath

  Paul has 3 sons, all of whom are currently students at Malorees and the whole family is loving the experience and community that comes with it.

  Paul is a Chartered Global Management Accountant and has spent the last 25 years working for a global Coca-Cola bottler, where he currently oversees capital expenditure.

  Born and raised in Singapore and having completed a BSc in Economics in the UK, he has lived in London for the last 25 years, more locally with his wife since 2013.

  Often seen carrying a tennis bag, he is also a Director at the nearby South Hampstead Club where he has taken on the role of Treasurer.

• Khalia Ismain
  Khalia Ismain

  I am an entrepreneur and Social Sustainability Director in the Business & Commercial Bank at Lloyds. I brings experience from outside education and a strong commitment to inclusion, integrity and community. I joined the governing board to help ensure the school is well-run, inclusive and focussed on giving every child the best possible start. I live locally and I'm proud to support Malorees to make designs that put pupils' wellbeing, opportunity and long-term outcomes first.

The Deputy Headteacher and members of the senior leadership team also attends Board and committee meetings, but holds no voting rights.  

If you wish to attend a Governing and Associate Member's Board meeting as an observer, please email your request to the same email address. Your request will be passed on to a Chair of Governors. If you are attending a meeting you will be asked to leave the meeting for any confidential items.
